Men in Black has picked up my interest in different ways that its hard to find a good place to begin. MIB seems to be one of those topics that seem hard to trace to its beginning but on the contrary with brief human history makes it a different case leading to Bender. The public sees the MIB as a group of men who dress in dark clothes that have sinister intentions. Way back in biblical time the tradition in Middle East was that men in black robes and turbans would lure victims into the desert for no apparent reason. The same type of stuff happened in Southern Europe, in fact in the middle ages it got to be that there was a fear among regions with people who black attired and wandered the country side. In fairy lore the human-looking fairies who dress in black are told to become delighted with causing mischief in the human world. MIB are often described with Asian features but there are long standing myths in India, China and Tibet about a superior race of humans who live beneath the earths surface that occasionly send agents ,who happen to dress in black, to mess with human affairs. That happens to be known as the King of the World myth. Native Americans also feared the men who lurked in forests who supposedly caused harm also dressed in black.
So, there seems to be a and ideal type of beings that were described by Bender. Bender also gave them the specific purpose of dismissing UFO participants from discussing what happened. Heres an interesting thought though: MIB encounters were already beginning to come in before Benders book was published, also after it was people were describing MIB to a perfect match who have never heard of this or Bender before. The MIB visitations usually show unqualified and bizarre behavior. They seem to be confused by human ways, and they do a very poor job at imitating humans. They are often amazed by everyday objects, like a bowl of jello or ball-point pens, and often ask rude and unfit questions. MIB encounters that have been documented are rare and there are more or less 40 cases. Among those 40 there are few with even the slightest credibility.

We are the best kept secret in the universe
Our mission is to monitor extra-terrestrial activity on Earth
We are your best, last, and only line of defense
We work in secret, we exist in shadow
And we dress in black

This is how a normal MIB encounter would happen: After witnessing some kind of UFO related phenomenon, the participant would then be visited by one or a group of strange men. These men usually follow the standard cop procedure, as in, flash badge, drop a name, and be from the government. Most of the time their lying and the names dropped and sometimes the agency do not exist.) The men not only seem to know about what all happened to the witness, but also has intimate knowledge of that person. They collect all physical evidence from the encounter. MIB wont have to threaten the witness not to talk about the experience but by the time they leave they also leave the impression not to. Other times they claim to be from something totally unconnected with the UFO experience, but in some way they still leave and impression they are associated with it. The MIBs physical appearance has a complete range but also some generalizations including: human-looking, olive complections, thin lips, high cheekbones, and slanted and/or glowing eyes, but their tends to be a very big height range. Their impersonating attempts to look normal are often overdone by too much makeup and a bad wig, and difficulty with age level. They often possess robot-like qualities with stiff walks and answering machine voices. MIB are often physically drained and have troubles breathing all in a short amount of time. They are dressed in out of date black suits that seem to come right off the rack and made from a strange type of fabric. The traveling of the MIB is often done by triples, doubles, or singles. They drive large, once again out of date, cars that are in perfect condition, that happen to also be black. These cars often display an unidentifiable sign of authority or of a nationality. The interior is often reported to make the viewer feel like the inside of the car is glowing in some way, shape, or form. When the license plate are checked out there are often found to be made up and unregistered or just by simply looking at them you can tell that they arent real. Men In Black I also like that movie. But my favorite part of the second movie is the beginning when the alien is singing, that part was off the wall. |
