Okay so comedians can be serious about something. And for Tom Green that seriousness didn't go to his wife but instead to skateboarding. He really is a pro.

Then he explains how this came to be.

"The definition of a professional skateboarder is that you get a board contract. You get a board put out, and you join a skateboard team," Green says.

So that's where it all started.

Green, who's been skateboarding since he was a kid growing up in Canada, admits to being "not that good" at some of the standard tricks, but "they would not have put me on the team if I wasn't good."

He's more of a street rider, not the kind who does the big loops with grace and ease.

Tom Green is good enough though to be a member of the Tony Hawk team Birdhouse. They do skateboard demonstrations around the country. The seven-member team just completed a countrywide tour.

"It was really cool," he says.

As much as he likes skating himself, Green is also fascinated by the lifestyle and culture surrounding it.

That's the center he says he's trying to capture with the comedy of "The Skateboard Show" (airing at 8:30 p.m. Thursday on The WB, Comcast Channel 37), a special he created and produced.
